Contemporary UK-based Nigerian artist, Armstrong Agoreyo, has held an evocative solo exhibition in Derby City, United Kingdom, exploring themes of cultural identity, materiality and environmental fragility in modern times.

Like other collage artists, Agoreyo Armstrong, an art educator is turning his artistic dreams into reality, portraying it with dexterity, capturing the hearts of lovers of art and conveying his messages without ambiguity.

My desire as a collage artist is to communicate with my viewers using waste materials, most especially papers. I try to capture beauty around my immediate environment using papers of different colours considered waste by the general public as I believe waste is beauty everywhere but only appreciated in the eyes of the beholder.

These paintings are unsettling yet captivating, urging viewers to confront the realities of life, death, and our symbiotic existence with nature.

The award was presented in recognition of my work Essence of Sustenance, which explores the deep connection between human existence and the natural world.

I would say I wanted to master a new medium because oil colors were pretty expensive and putting a huge dent in my pocket, and I saw paper as an alternative.
